A bit about me

My love for photography started as a kid when I was handed a little 35mm point-and-shoot camera. I’d snap away, eagerly waiting for the film to be developed, and nothing beat the excitement of unwrapping that Klick pack of 6×4 prints with my mum. My parents, however, weren’t quite as thrilled with how much film I went through! You can imagine their relief when digital cameras arrived—suddenly, my expensive hobby became a whole lot cheaper. I’m incredibly grateful for their support, which helped me grow from an 8-year-old capturing blurry shots to the photographer I am today. Looking back, it’s amazing how far things have come!

Robyn

My number one reason for EVERYTHING is my daughter Robyn and I’d love one day to have her as my wedding sidekick (her work isn’t quite up to scratch yet). She is the funniest, kindest and cutest person I know, watching her grow up and caring for her is the best privilege I have in the world. Now I understand what my parents have always told me about unconditional love. Why am I writing about my daughter on my website? Because I want you guys to read this and know what’s important to me and what makes me tick. Much like I love to find out the same about my wedding couples; I love to know what makes you guys tick.

Just for Fun – A Few Marmite Bits About Me!

Life’s all about the things you love (and a few you don’t), so here’s a little insight into what makes me tick!

Things I Can’t Get Enough Of:

First and foremost—Robyn and Lorna, my amazing family, and friends. Then there’s my cameras (obviously), real ale, a good pint of Guinness (or Guinness 0), a cracking rugby match, cycling, and the occasional round of golf or snooker. The sound of the sea, thunderstorms, and that fresh-cut grass smell never get old.

Music is a huge part of my life—whether it’s blasting Old Dominion, Jimmy Eat World, AC/DC, or adding to my ever-growing vinyl collection. I’m also a total child of the ‘80s, and anything from that era instantly makes me nostalgic. And speaking of obsessions, I’m hooked on Stranger Things—seriously, I could talk about it for hours!

Other things that make me happy? Good coffee, great food, barbecues, a great scary film, and a lazy holiday. I geek out over gadgets, Lego, and anything Apple. We are 100% a Disney and Harry Potter household! Whisky, dark rum, red wine, and a proper pub with a roaring log fire? Yes, please. And of course, The Peak District—especially Bamford Edge—is my happy place.

Things I’d Rather Avoid:

Marrows, cucumbers, and courgettes (why do they even exist?!). Traffic jams, slow internet, and people who park like they learned from a blindfolded goat. Sticky hands, warm gin and tonic (just no), and being cold and wet are definite no-gos. Ironing—why is it even a thing? And as much as I love keeping active, going to the gym in summer just feels wrong.

Also, the pitfalls of social media, misinformation, and selfishness—three things the world could do with a lot less of!

Some Interesting Facts About Me:

  • I once did a 24-hour indoor bike ride on a turbo trainer and raised over £11,500 for Ashgate Hospice. It was brutal, but 100% worth it!
  • I used to play Ice Hockey and Roller Hockey—turns out, I love sports where you get to hit things!
  • I’m a governor at my daughter’s primary school—because shaping young minds is just as important as capturing great photos!
  • I once played rugby in a Sale Sharks exhibition match—probably the closest I’ll ever get to being a pro athlete!

Now you know a little more about me—if we share a love for great music, epic landscapes, and a decent drink, we’ll get on just fine!

A few images of me at work

Having fun on the Carousel at Preston Court

This is me hopping on the carousel to make sure I could get the angle I wanted to document Katie and Ben’s ride on the carousel.

Checking in on the groom

Having a quick casual chat with Ben befroe the ceremony starts to make sure he’s okay and to offer some words of encouragement.

Capturing some relaxed couples moments

Documenting Callum carrying Leanne’s wedding dress as they headed back to see their guests after a few group photos.

Capturing the mood in the rain

Still working in the rain during a couple’s pre wedding shoot, we got some really great moody photos from this one, sometimes the rain makes it!

Too busy concentrating on my camera

Sometimes I forget to tell my face I’m having a great time while I’m concentrating on the shot I want. Must remember to have a smiling concentration face more often I think.

Me testing the dance floor lighting test

Testing the lighting setup I wanted to use for the first dance at this wedding. I always do this, I want to make sure I’m making the best light for my bride and grooms first dance.

Documenting the bouquet toss

I love getting involved in moments like this and making sure I document them as part of the overall wedding story.

Blending into the crowd

Making sure I’m in the crowd capturing moments, I remember this one photographing the grandparents at John + Sarah’s wedding.

Capturing the dance floor

Getting involved in all the little moments that happen during he dancefloor. My favourite part of the day when everyone lets their hair down and has fun.

Respectfully documenting the ceremony

Between using a silent shutter (no camera clicks) and maintaining a respectful distnace I’ll capture your ceremony as it unfolds.
